Teeth Cleaning (Existing patients) in Chicago, IL

Though the thought of visiting their dentist does not excite many people, they recognize that teeth cleanings can prevent severe oral issues in the early stages. For instance, twice-yearly dental appointments can reduce your risk of developing gum disease, remove plaque and tartar buildup, and prevent cavities from getting worse. At Tilden Dental in Chicago, we offer professional teeth cleanings to ensure the optimum dental health of our patients.

How Long Does a Teeth Cleaning Take?

A teeth cleaning can take anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour. During your appointment, we will comprehensively examine your teeth. We will also remove dental plaque and tartar before polishing your enamel with a soft abrasive paste. If necessary, we may take X-rays, and if any problems are identified, we may recommend treatment options.

What Is Involved In Teeth Cleaning?

There are several steps involved in teeth cleanings:

  • Initial Oral Examination

First, we will use a small mirror to examine the inside of your mouth. If we detect any oral concerns, we will treat them before going ahead with the teeth cleanings.

  • Plaque and Tartar Removal

An efficient way to remove dental plaque is by brushing and flossing your teeth at home. But it can be pretty challenging to reach plaque that has accumulated along the gum line and between the teeth. Also, only a dental provider will be able to completely remove plaque that has hardened into tartar.

  • Polishing Teeth

We employ a gritty tooth polish and a unique electric-powered brush to polish your teeth. Usually, teeth cleanings should never hurt.

  • Flossing Between Teeth

As the concluding step, we will floss your teeth. This will clean out any plaque that could be hidden between teeth. Flossing allows us to know where the gum bleeding is taking place.

  • Rinsing

At this point, we will spray some water into your mouth and ask you to swish. Once you are ready, we use suction force to remove the water from your mouth. The rinsing will help remove any residual tooth polish.

  • Final Checkup with Dentist

Once you are finished with your professional teeth cleaning, our dentists will conduct a final dental exam. If they don't discover any oral health issues, you are all set to go home. We will also be able to answer all your oral concerns. Afterward, we will request you to schedule your next dental exam and teeth cleaning.
